Room 2

Haere Mai- Welcome

We are a unique team of Year 3 students.  We are really fortunate to have a lot of different cultures, strengths and interests in our class.  We have a class mascot called High Flyer Chicken who helps us keep on track with a growth mindset.

Our teacher is Miss McCall.  The best way to contact her is by email (freyam@oteha.school.nz) or just have a chat when you come in to school.

NOTE: All parents and caregivers should receive school newsletters and other notices via email at least once a week.  If you are not receiving these, please inform the school office.

Term 3 Messages

Seesaw is our online portfolio.  You should now be able to access you child's page at home.  If you're unable to, please ask for a new access link.

Cultural Extravaganza  Wednesday 20 September 10am-2.30pm.  Room 2 will be preparing a contribution to this day based around an investigation into a particular culture.  Watch this space!

Home learning

Homework should take about 20-30 minutes.  Parents, please sign the homework sheet every Thursday night.  Homework books must be returned to school each Friday, then they will be taken home the following Monday.

Reading

Reading at home should be easy and fun.  The aim is to reinforce what has been learned in class and to encourage a love of reading. Read every day Mon-Thurs and write a comment in the reading log.  Children can write the comment and parents sign it.  You can also write in comments for reading you do Friday-Sunday when you may listen to a story read by someone else or you read together with somebody.  More tips on reading together can be found in the reading log.

Maths

Practise your basic facts on www.prototec.co.nz  Tick the box on your homework sheet when this is complete. Your aim is to say each answer really quickly (within 3 seconds).   Please note that your basic facts level is not your overall maths stage, it is just one domain.

You can also practise these in other ways eg  make flash cards, add digits on car number plates, prices in shops etc.  There are also maths activities on www.studyladder.co.nz  or  www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Spelling

Practise your spelling words however you choose (eg look, cover, write, check / rainbow writing/ www.spellingtraining.com) then ask someone to test you each day.  Tick the ones you spelled correctly and put a dot on the ones you did not know on your homework sheet.

Some alternative tasks may be set occasionally. It is a good idea to cover your homework book, otherwise it is unlikely to last the year.   Happy learning!
