Room 7

Welcome to Room 7

My name is Jacqui Tyler. I am delighted to have the opportunity to teach your children this year.

Our learning will focus around developing the Key Competencies that all students require to become lifelong learners. Through all curriculum areas, we encourage thinking and questioning, risk taking, self-management, collaboration, and identity.

Room 7 is a bubbly, vibrant group of Year 2 students who are learning to understand the importance of working independently but also learning to collaborate with others, and to question and to be curious in their discoveries. To promote class community, we will be starting a class blog through the Seesaw app.

I am generally available outside of school teaching hours and I value contact with all of my parents. However, there may be times when you need to speak with me privately. Please email me to make an appointment at jacquit@oteha.school.nz.

Homework

Each week your child will have reading and spelling homework. If you have a busy schedule, a good way to practice your spelling is in the car when travelling with your child. Children can read to parents or a sibling.

Reading:

One reading book is sent home every day.

Children are encouraged to read for at least 5-10 minutes per day. Would parents please write the title of each book they read in their reading log (the small yellow book) and sign the log each day. The reading logs will be checked each day to monitor progress.

We visit the library every Thursday as a class and choose books to read for enjoyment. The library is also open each lunchtime if children wish to swap books or read during their break.

It is important to read with your child every day to develop their skills. If your child is curious about something you could research information together.

Spelling:

Spelling words will be sent home each Monday and can be found in your child's spelling book (the small red exercise book). Spelling words will be tested each Friday.

Encourage your child to practice spelling their words each night and make interesting or fun sentences using their words. Please look up and discuss the meaning of any unknown words.

If you would like some tips for helping your child learn their spelling words, please feel free to email me.
